Prof. Xu gave a brief introduction to discrete mathematics with the topic "Is Mathematics Useful?", and introduced graph theory, matrix, binary, integral and other mathematical knowledge and their specific applications in detail in connection with real life. Interesting topics such as "hash function" and "Nim game" inspired the students' enthusiasm for mathematics. He also encouraged the students to set good life goals and study hard with the famous saying of mathematician Hua Luogeng that "intelligence lies in diligence, and genius lies in accumulation".
