Cuiying Honors College Holds 2023 Research Mentor Meeting​

To deepen the implementation of the mentorship system, further strengthen the integration of science and education, and cultivate outstanding students through independent learning, the Research Supervisor Meeting for the academic year 2023 of the Lanzhou University Cuiying Honors College was held at the Guanyun Building on the Chengguan Campus on the morning of October 21st. More than 60 research supervisors from various disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, history, and philosophy, serving as academic advisors for the 2022 Cuiying Class, attended the meeting. All faculty members of the Cuiying Honors College and the entire student body of the 2022 class also participated.

Guests at the meeting included Professor Tang Xiaodong, the Director of the Nuclear astrophysics group at the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, andprincipal investigatorZhao XingboinIMP, as well as Associate Professor Bai Xingwen, Deputy Director of Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (LVRI, CAAS), and from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosecurity of Lanzhou University.

The meeting was organized according to five disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and humanities. Each session was chaired by a 2022 academic advisor: Professor Huang Yumei from the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Lanzhou University, Professor Han Weihua from the School of Physical Science and Technologyof Lanzhou University, Associate Professor Fang Jian from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineeringof Lanzhou University, Professor Yang Hao from the School of Life Sciencesof Lanzhou University, and Professor Wu Jiongjiong from the School of History and Cultureof Lanzhou University.

During the meeting, research supervisors provided detailed introductions to their research areas, project content, and future developments. They shared their research experiences and answered academic planning and research-related questions from students. The supervisors encouraged students to align their personal development with the destiny of the country, selectively choose research directions and topics that align with their interests and abilities, and provide practical guidance and assistance for students to have a correct understanding of research, actively engage in scientific research, and plan their academic pursuits rationally.

The Research Supervisor Meeting is an integral part of the 3rd "JuyingCuihua["Gathering Excellence, Cultivating Brilliance" ]" Academic Enhancement Month at Cuiying Honors College. It is a crucial initiative in the college's commitment to mission-driven education, emphasizing mentorship, and independently cultivating outstanding students. This event serves as a significant measure to facilitate positive interactions among students and mentors with diverse academic backgrounds, knowledge structures, and interests. In addition to hosting this centralized meeting, various academic salons will also be organized shortly, providing additional opportunities to deepen the communication between students and research supervisors in different academic disciplines.
