Recently, the results of the 2020 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM), sponsored by the Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIM), were announced. The results of CUMCM were announced, and Cuiying Honors College’s students won one national first prize and one national second prize.

The team of Bi Cheng of the Mathematics Cuiying class of 2017 won the first prize in the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling of 2020; the team of Yang Kuan, Chi Zhiming and Wang Xiaodan of the Mathematics Cuiying class of 2017 won the second prize in the National Mathematical Modeling Contest of 2020.

Previously, 13 students from Cuiying Honors College also won provincial awards in the Gansu Provincial College Mathematical Modeling Competition.

The mathematical modeling competition of Lanzhou University is organized and implemented by the School of Mathematics and Statistics, which selects outstanding teams, organizes training on modeling methods and skills, and conducts regular pre-tournament simulation training, etc. In 2020, three teams of our university won the national first prize.

News Background:

It is one of the first 19 competitions listed in the "Ranking of Academic Competitions in Universities" and is the largest basic academic competition in universities in China and the largest mathematical modeling competition in the world. 1470 institutions/campuses, 45,680 teams (41,826 undergraduate teams and 3,854 specialist teams) and more than 130,000 people from across the country and the United States, the United Kingdom and Malaysia registered for the competition.

Each institution of higher education participated in the competition as a team, with three members of each team coming from the same school. According to the requirements of the competition, participants were required to choose one answer from three questions and solve practical problems and complete the entry paper through three days using mathematics and physics with the help of computer programming, which had high requirements for the division of labor and cooperation among the team members.
