The harvest and feeling of studying in Georgia State University

The summer vacation of 2023 was fruitful for me. Since July 3rd, I have left my motherland for the first time and embarked on a trip to study abroad. My destination is Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

First of all, my biggest feeling is that I began to integrate into the English language environment abroad. The school attaches great importance to international cultural exchanges. There are teachers and students from China, South Korea, Nigeria and Egypt. No matter whether in class or in daily life, we have to use English to communicate with others, which greatly improves my English listening and speaking ability. Moreover, the one-month English listening and speaking training is very helpful to my English class this semester, so that I can better adapt to English teaching and reading English papers and articles.

Secondly, going abroad for exchange makes my mind more open. After going abroad, I found that different cultural backgrounds can make such a big difference in people's behavior. After going abroad, I made friends with classmates from different countries, accepted different modes of education, and experienced American life, which also cultivated my ability of independent thinking.Feel the exotic food culture and consumption concept, lifestyle, and experience as well as the slow pace of life. When we first arrived in Atlanta, the school held many activities to help us adjust to life and get to know each other. Such as visiting Zoo Atlanta, visiting the Coca-Cola World, and so on. During this period, each student was equipped with a local student as our buddy, who would take us out to play every weekend, invite us to study and exercise, and integrate into the American student life. The school also organized many parties to promote communication among students.

Thirdly, I went to an American laboratory to study.Foreign laboratories have more sophisticated instruments and more comfortable laboratory environment, from which I havelearned some different experimental methods and learned to use chemical instruments that have not been used before. My chemistry teachers ara Chinese teacher and an Egyptian teacher. Dr. Henary,an Egyptian teacher,came to Lanzhou University for exchange study in 2016,so hewas very friendly toseeour three students from Lanzhou University.Because we have not learned English for specialized courses, some professional terms in chemistry and biology will not be understood, and we also use translation while taking notes in class. With the help of my Chinese teacher Mei, my professional Englishlevelhas graduallyimproved this month, and I can fully understand the teacher's words in the later class. Within 30 days, I learned how to write English literature for my chemistry major and made a professional report in English accompanied by PPT for the first time in my life. Although I could not use some advanced English vocabulary, I tried my best to express the words and sentencesI wanted to expressclearly and was praised by the teacher, which gave me a great sense of accomplishment.

Fourthly, I experienced a foreign culture. Madden, our English teacher, take us to a different location every Thursday to experience the Atlanta culture. For the first time, I saw the teaching style of classroom and outdoor practice,and it was very interesting. During this period, we went to the authentic Atlanta residential town, visited the interior of the church, and visited the memorial hall of Martin Luther King, which made me deeply feel the history and sedimentation of Atlanta city.

At the end of the three-week course, the four of us gave up a school vacation to a beach in Florida and instead bought plane tickets to DC, the nation's capital. The three days of my trip to Washington were the most impressive for me. The city of Atlanta, where our university is located, is located in the southeast of the United States and is the birthplace of the Civil War. More than 1,000 kilometers from Atlanta, Washington is the capital of the United States. For three days, under the guidance of Jiang, we visited the Washington Monument, overlooking the whole District at an altitude of more than 100 meters; Visited the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Air and Space Museum, National Art Museum, and many other attractions and museums near the National Mall, experienced the culture between different countries, different cultures and even different cities, also visited the Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court, the library, and saw the White House where the president is located. Hundreds of years ago, the great men of history, Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Martin Luther King, made great contributions here, which led to the present culture and life. The Second World War has also left its mark and scars on the city. The World War II Memorial and the Holocaust Memorial both record this memory. In addition, we also went to the Kennedy Theatre to see the play, in this old theater, we understood "American humor". The drama uses very novel props and interaction to present the best program effect for the audience, and it is worth watching. The trip to DC has given me a deeper understanding of the country and a greater confidence in my own independent life in an English environment.

Before leaving Atlanta, Li Qifan, senior from the 2017 Physics English class, took us to visit his current university - Georgia Tech. The senior was very enthusiastic to take us to visit the library, laboratory, sports field, and other building sites of Georgia Tech, and saw the famous scenic spots of Georgia Tech, and also took us to experience the Vietnamese restaurant that Chinese students are particularly enthusiastic about. I was very moved by Qifan senior's enthusiasmand enthusiasm, especially in a foreign environment, where the alumni feel more warm.

In the end, we successfully got good grades, and also successfully got the certificate issued by the school, which is very meaningful. Georgia State University is very humane, carefully taking care of all aspects of our lives, and even caring about everyone's emotions and moods. If I were to rate Georgia State, I'd give it ten out of ten!
