Report title: From the Study of Confucian Classics to the History of It

Time:2020-10-13,9:00

Location: Room B602 in Tianshan Building

Abstract:

The study of Confucian classics is the main body of Confucianism. Confucianism is inseparable from the study of the classics, but the relationship between them is quite complicated. It can be roughly divided into "pre-jingxue era", "jingxue era" and "post-jingxue era", and the situation in each period is very different. After the disintegration of Confucianism, the discourse of Confucianism in modern scholarship was basically separated from the study of classics and turned into forms such as philosophical thought; while the historical materials of the latter were circulated in the fields of history, philology, etc., or shrunk into a narrow history of Confucianism. . This situation has been going on for a hundred years, and the concept of "Confucianism" that has been formed has gradually become a fixed form, narrowing the territory, dying of the image, and becoming a dying knowledge. In fact, the broad sense of Confucianism includes not only the various sorting and interpretation work carried out around the classics, but also the interpretation and exertion of the ideological meaning contained in these texts; it includes the use of text, phonology, exegesis and other elementary school skills. As the backbone of the academic form, there is also a metaphysical tendency to ask for reason. As a large system in which exegesis and rationale coexist, the new construction of Confucianism must first break through the narrow concept of "primary school as Confucianism" and the helpless act of "the history of Confucianism is regarded as Confucianism", and put Confucianism into the broad perspective of Chinese cultural history, then start with classic interpretation to clarify its meaning and liberate it from a purely materialized identity.
