To strengthen the integration of science and education in cultivating students, stimulate students’ interest in scientific research, broaden their academic horizons, and further strive for excellence in the field of scientific innovation, Cuiying Honors College fully integrated high-quality academic resources both inside and outside the university during the 2023 summer semester. The college conducted inter-university exchanges with research institutes such as the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, as well as renowned universities including Tsinghua University and Nankai University. The college invited leading talents from various disciplines to share cutting-edge academic developments and engage in scientific research practice, achieving a dual enhancement of professional education and scientific research literacy.
From July 9th to 13th, the college organized students to participate in the summer camp at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. During this time, students visited the Energy College campus of the institute and laboratories specializing in atomic and molecular physics, optics, physical chemistry, materials physics and chemistry, chemical engineering, and industrial catalysis. They also attended academic lectures by celebrated experts such as Academician Zhang Yukui of the Chinese Academy of Sciencesandso on. The lectures were insightful and easy to understand, and lecturers systematically reviewed the development process and frontier achievements of separation analysis science.

From July 9th to 14th, the college organized students to participate in the summer camp at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academicians Dawei Ma, Jinghan Gui, and Researcher Ang Li shared hotspots in their respective fields with the students. Academician Dawei Ma, inspired by Nieng Yan’s Question, encouraged students to integrate scientific achievements with social development and personal growth. He hoped that while advancing scientific research, students would not forget to promote the social value transformation of their achievements, aiming for the common progress of individuals, science, and society.
From July 10th to 14th, the college organized students to participate in the summer camp at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Not only did the experts and scholars introduce the institute's sophisticated work in areas such as heavy ion cancer therapy, new isotope synthesis, isotope mass measurement, and so on, but also they guided students through visits to advanced facilities like the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Accelerator, the High-Intensity Superconducting Linear Accelerator, and the Low-Energy High-Intensity High-Charge-State Heavy Ion Research Facility. What’s more, Academician Jiawen Xia delivered a lecture titled ‘The Scientific Significance and Social Application of Heavy Ion Accelerators’, systematically summarizing current theoretical developments and practical applications in the field, guiding the integration of industry, academia, and research, as well as a healthy development. The participating students actively engaged in discussions with Academician Xia on relevant professional issues. Researchers Guoqing Xiao, Xiaohong Zhou, Jinglai Duan, and Junren Huang shared recent research findings, further deepening students’ understanding of the field. Zhuyang Ding, a second-year student from the Cuiying Class of Physics, said that the exchange at the institute solidified his life’s direction, casting anchor atop the waves to devote himself to serving the country.

Simultaneously, the college organized students to attend summer camps at the Institute of High Energy Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National Astronomical Observatories, CAS. Academic lectures on the path of scientific research by Academician Tibe Li and Professor Zhizhong Xing’s lecture on “Daya Bay Neutrinos” exposed students to the inevitable pressures and setbacks along the lengthy journey of scientific research. Their tireless efforts and optimistic, pragmatic attitudes inspired the students to persevere through challenges, maintaining their initial mission and pushing China’s high-energy physics research to new heights. During the camp, students also visited the headquarters of the National Astronomical Observatories and engaged in close exchanges with research teams from the institutes.

From July 17th to 22nd, the college organized students to participate in summer camp activities at the Qujing Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Students delved into local archaeological frontlines in Qujing, known as the “Ancient Fish Kingdom”, attended lectures, participated in excavation work, and attended the naming ceremony of “Zhang Miman Star” engaging in dialogue with Academician Miman Zhang.

During this summer semester lasting more than twenty days, not only did the students learn about the latest developments in domestic and international disciplines, but also they gained a deeper understanding of scientific research through close contact with scientists. The sincere and decades-long dedication of the older generation of scientific researchers deeply moved the participating students, strengthening their ideals and convictions, and vowing to contribute to the “strength of the nation” through continuous learning.
From classrooms to laboratories, from forum venues to the broad academic community, the summer academic exchange activities conducted by Cuiying Honors College fully leveraged its resource advantages. Adhering to the integration of science and education and guided by masters, the college promoted students’ participation in a variety of academic exchanges, effectively conveying the spirit of scientists who are rooted in the frontlines of research, tirelessly striving for life, and serving the national strategic needs while keeping pace with international technological frontiers. The college actively contributes to the cultivation of leading talents in science and technology.
