To strengthen health and safety education and enhance students’ comprehensive abilities, Cuiying Honors College, together with Grassland Agricultural Science and Technology College, Marxism College, Wales College, and Philosophy and Sociology College, invited Professor Wei Siqi from the School of Nursing of Lanzhou University to conduct practical training on health education and first aid techniques at Yuzhong Campus on the afternoon of December 7th.

Professor Wei Siqi first asked some simple questions to understand the students’ knowledge and mastery of first aid. Then, she focused on teaching them cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver.

CPR, short for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency technique for patients with cardiac and respiratory arrest, and one of the most important rescue measures. The Heimlich maneuver is a specific method to save people with acute airway obstruction caused by foreign objects, and one of the most effective rescue methods recognized in the world.

In the lecture, Professor Wei presented the use cases, subjects, warnings, and processes of the two first aid techniques comprehensively, and the teaching assistants performed them.

In the practice training session, the students on the site performed the practical exercises, and Professor Wei and the teaching assistants coached each student’s operation and addressed and corrected the problems that occurred during the exercises. The students enthusiastically practiced the operation, and the atmosphere on the site was very warm.

Cuiying Honors College emphasizes students’ health and safety education. It works hard to provide education and training on fire protection knowledge, first aid skills, and prevention of telecom fraud and embeds them into various aspects of daily management through opening ceremonies, grade meetings, class meetings, and so on.
