On the morning of August 31^st, Cuiying Honors College held a Mentor Meeting for the class of 2019 students. Tutors majoring in mathematics, chemistry, biology, history, literature and philosophy took part in it, which symbolized the beginning of “academic week” in the fall term of the 2020 school year.

This meeting was carried on by different majors including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and humanity, during which newcomers communicated with mentors actively. Teachers introduced their research directions as well as projects respectively, providing students with more guidance about choosing own research tutors.

The scientific research Mentor Meeting of mathematical class of Grade 2019 in Cuiying Honors College was presided over by Prof. Deng Weihua, vice president of the institute of mathematics and statistics. Prof. Wu Yujiang, Prof. Zhang Guofeng, Prof. Li Weide, Prof. Zheng Bing, Prof. Wei Ting, Prof. Xu Shoujun, Prof. Lin Guo, Prof. Sun Hongrui, Prof. Gao Xing, Prof. Wang Yejuan, Prof. Huang Yumei attended the meeting and induced their main research directions, putting forward the suggestions and requirements to the students. Mentors expressed their hope that students should enhance their foundations, study actively, get down to do their researches, overcome impetuosity and get lofty goals to pursue.

The scientific research Mentor meeting of chemical class of Grade 2019 in Cuiying Honors College was presided over by Prof. Bu Weifeng, academic supervisor from Institute of Chemical and Chemical Technology. Prof. Xu Pengfei, Prof. Wang Wei, Prof. Wu Jincai, Prof. Ding Yong, Prof. Xi Pingxian, Prof. Tang Xiaoliang, and A.P. Zhao Guanghui attended the meeting. Supervisors introduced the research direction of their own work and teams, and shared their work achievements, discussed with the students about undergraduate education and the problems existing in the training of scientific research in the meeting. They came to an agreement on teaching undergraduates according to their aptitude and hoped students do scientific research rather than just do something meaningless, and advised that the students should make their own choices on research directions according to time and their lives.

The scientific research Mentor meeting of biology class of Grade 2019 in Cuiying Honors College was presided over by Prof. Dong Shouliang, academic supervisor from Institute of Biology. Prof. Li Xiangkai, Prof. Xiao Sa, Prof. Du Bo, Prof. Cheng Bo, Prof. Huang Dejun, Prof. Zhang Shengxiang, Prof. Gou Xiaoping, Prof. Da Chaoshan, Prof. Zhao Zhiguang, Prof. Wang Jianlin, and A.P. He Yongxing attended the meeting. Supervisors introduced the research direction of their own work and their labs, communicating the features of biology and some problems about study outside and study in labs. They hope students can benefit a lot from academic supervisors, find their favourate directions, do researches actively and enhance their ability in research to get a new level.

The scientific research Mentor meeting of humanities class of Grade 2019 in Cuiying Honors College was presided over by Prof. Zhang Shanqing, the vice dean of College of History and Culture. Other participants include Prof. Zhang Jin, Prof. Wei Hongyuan, Prof. Wang Daqiao in the College of Literature, Prof. Qiao Jian, Prof. Wang Jiqing, Prof. Wei Wenbin, A.P. Wu Jiongjiong, A.P. Xue Xiaoli in the College of History and Culture, Prof. Peng Zhanguo, A.P. Zhong Hui in the College of Philosophy. They presented these colleges’ running situation and shared some experiences of previous graduates, aiming at the integration of humanities, the refinement and specialization of learning, as well as the importance of reading.

Other tutors commissioned their team members to introduce their respective research directions for the students to learn as well.

The in-depth implementation of the Tutorial System is an important measure of Cuiying Honors College to cultivate top-notch innovative talents. It aims to encourage students to participate in scientific research project training, promote students' deep learning and cultivate innovative thinking and abilities. The Mentor Meeting made the teachers keep in touch with students further and strengthen the comprehensive guidance for teachers to the course study and scientific research. Students speak highly of this meeting. Niu tianmei, a student of mathematics class of Cuiying Honors College of 2019, said, “Through the meeting with research tutors, I reflected on my learning status deeply and analyzed my interests and hobbies carefully, also made clear my direction of further study.” “The meeting solved many problems for us like how to choose a research tutor, how to find the orientation of scientific research. It guide a general direction to do research for us.” Yan Huachao said, who is a student of biology class of Cuiying Honors College of 2019. Mao Jiayi, student of humanities class of Cuiying Honors College of 2019 said, “I found the whole meeting warm. Teachers shared their experience, talked about the academic situation, and put forward proposals to us. Each of them has cudgeled his brains, which has benefited us a lot.”
