We always find our road after different attempts, just like the saying "there is no more road in life, every step counts. "Here we’ll introduce Gou Xuyang, a 2016 chemistry graduate from Cuiying Honors College of Lanzhou University, who is about to go to the University of British Columbia for further study. He was Lanzhou University outstanding graduates of the year 2020, and won the second prize of excellent academic scholarship of Lanzhou University in 2017-2018 academic year, national scholarship of Lanzhou University in 2016-2017 academic year, and student model of 2016-2017 academic year.
When it comes to the reason for coming to Cuiying Honors College, Guo Xuyang said, “Mainly depends on my interest, as for me interest is the most important factor for a person to become a talent. I think that I am more suitable for scientific research, according to my personality and intelligence. So I came the Cuiying Honors College, which is a platform for scientific research personnel training. Also Cuiying Honors College’s international training system attracted me.”
After came to Cuiying Honors College, there was an organic experiment left a deep impression on Guo Xuyang, “It’s late November, we did three experiments in a day”, Guo Xuyang recalled, “The day was very cold, and its particular hard, but teachers were with us all the time. We started at eight in the morning and worked until eight in the evening. When we came out, we were shocked that it was already dark. That time, I realized the hardship of scientific researchers.” And the experiment affected the Guo Xuyang’s later study direction choice. “In various experiments, I found that I not that like organic and organic and analytical chemistry directions“said the Guo Xuyang, “Whereas, I like the instrumental analysis and calculation direction more. The former focuses on experiments, while the latter lays particular stress on the analysis and thinking of chemical systems.”
Recalling his years in Cuiying Honors College, Guo Xuyang said that he was most impressed by the exchange on Berkeley during the summer vacation of his sophomore year. At the time, he said that he had learned a lot and lived a very substantial life. Because of the exchange of studying abroad, Guo Xuyang chose to postpone the examination of instrumental analysis and physical chemistry. While in the United States, he did not have time to review the heavy curriculum and homework. It was the end of August when he returned home。And there were only two weeks for him to review his two professional courses.“As saying goes, there was no shortcut in study but diligence, so I could only study hard and read books every morning at home, in the afternoon to do the topic, and evening summary, fortunately. Fortunately, the examination of the beginning of term is still satisfied.“Guo Xuyang said with a smile.
At last, Guo Xuyang encourage his junior students that,“Study hard, no matter how rough the future is”
