To cultivate awareness of garbage classification andscientific medication among teachers and students, on December 10th, Cuiying Honors College and the School of Pharmacy of Lanzhou University jointly held a series of promotional activities on garbage classification and the “Dandelion Project” to promote medication safety at the Vision Square of Yuzhong Campus.

During the one-day offline event, the volunteer organizations from both colleges organized a series of fun games, including “Knowledge Challenges”, “Slam Dunk”, “Find Your Seat”, “You Talk, I Guess”, and “Holding the Line to Find Objects”, which attracted hundreds of teachers and students from the entire school. The “edutainment” competition model significantly enhanced the appeal of this science popularization campaign, allowing students to enhance their understanding of garbage sorting and medication safety in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

“Knowledge Challenges” is conducted in a two-person competition format, where contestants rush to answer questions to determine the victor. The questionscovervarious aspects such as classifying different medicines and garbage, etc, determining whether certain garbage can be disposed of in a particular way, and so on. This game can effectively test the students' related knowledge base.

“Slam Dunk” requires students to work in pairs to throw ping-pong balls labeled with different garbage tags into the corresponding trash bins on the opposite side. Through this engaging and educational activity, students participating in the competition can apply their knowledge in practice, which echoes the main purpose of the event.

“Find Your Seat” is a hands-on garbage sorting activity. Participants need to place cards into shoeboxes that represent different categories of garbage. The correct answers will be announced at the end. This activity not only enriches the students' knowledge of garbage classification and pharmaceutical recycling but also encourages them to integrate this proactive participation awareness into their daily activities.

For the game named “Holding the Line to Find Objects”, participants need to find photos belonging to the specified garbage category from a pile of photos. The scores aregivenbased on the accuracy of the photos they find.

The “You Talk, I Guess” activity requires pairwise cooperation, where one participant describes items without using the corresponding words, and the other guesses the items and then categorizes them.

In addition to offline publicity campaigns, volunteers also set up online segments such as a garbage sorting knowledge quiz competition and the creation of short videos on drug recycling awareness, actively utilizing the advantages of new media to promote the influence of the event.

Garbage classification is an important link in cultivating a civilized and healthy lifestyle for residents. Similarly, medication safety is crucial for human life and the environment. Improper disposal of garbage not only severely harms the environment and affects public health, but also restricts the effective use and development of resources, endangering the living environment and ecological civilization. Garbage classification is related to production, living conditions, and development of thousands of households, making it an urgent matter.

The promotional activities on garbage classification and the “Dandelion Project” for medication safety, jointly held by the two colleges, not only enriched the extracurricular cultural and spiritual life of teachers and students but also promoted their awareness in relevant fields, contributing to the collective environmental protection efforts of the entire society. In the future, the Youth League Committees and Student Unions of both colleges will continue to cooperate in organizing the “Dandelion Project” series of events, contributing to serving and enriching the campus life of teachers and students.
